Your Fridge Will Never Look The Same – Custom Magnets Are Where It’s At!

I’m a craft guy and so are most of my friends. Now I’ve learned that even some of my friends’ friends are crafty too. This “cool ass craft” idea comes from a friend’s friend and DTBD reader Laura in Studio City, CA. Laura transforms tiny glass marbles into little magnetic masterpieces. It’s yet another great budget conscious gift for this holiday season – dedicated to Marie. Here’s how you do it:
You will need:
Clear glass accent marbles (with one flat side)
¾ inch round magnets or smaller
Silicone sealer
Scissors
Old magazines, photos or any other graphic inspirations that you can cut out
¾ inch craft hole punch (optional – you can use scissors)
Xacto knife (optional – for trimming)
Step One:
Search for cool images or words you would like to see on your magnets. It’s best to customize the look and feel of the images for the person you are creating the gift for. The crazier the better, the more memorable. Even consider shrinking down images that are too big on a color photocopier..
Step Two:
Using your hole punch or scissors, cut an image out to fit the flat side of the glass marble. Trim with an Xacto knife if desired.
Step Three:
Place a really small drop of silicon on your image and affix to the flat side of your marble. (Basically you are putting a small amount of glue over the image you want to show through the magnet.) A drop the size of a pencil eraser or less will do.
Step Four:
Put another small sized drop of glue on the magnet and affix it to your already assembled marble and image. Wipe away any excess silicon drippings.
Step Five:
Let it dry for one hour.
Super easy and fun! These magnet gifts work best when given as a set of three or more. You could even decorate an old mint box in the same theme and present your magnets inside. Add a bow and be done. Now that’s a cool ass craft! Here’s a shout out to Laura!
