What Rag To Use and When

Rags

I’m always thinking of ways to cut costs and use what I have.  Buying cleaning rags is kinda an oxymoron, right?  The words “buy” and “rag” just don’t seem to go together—kind of like the early days of buying bottled water.  LOL!  Here’s how I recycle old clothing and towels into cleaning rags to use for different cleaning scenarios:

Old Towels
Terry cloth has a soft absorbent surface making it ideal for washing large, flat surfaces—floors and walls—that need a little elbow grease.

Old Flannel Shirts
Use your old flannels to clean the delicate surfaces in your house.  I cut up my old flannel pajamas, remove any buttons and/or zippers and use them to polish glass surfaces—TV screen, monitor, and mirrors.

Polo T-Shirts
These are high quality cotton shirts.  Yeah I know polo shirts aren’t cheap, but we all have one with that little bleach stain we just don’t want to let go.  Well, let it go.  Use it to clean greasy or oily surfaces like stove tops or window blinds.

Old Socks
If you need to polish anything in your home from shoes to flatware, use an old 100% cotton sock.  Combined with some polish, you’ll carpel tunnel your way to the perfect shine!

Newspaper
My grandmother always used newspaper to clean windows.  It is the best.  It’s super absorbent and leaves the glass streak free.  Use with your favorite glass cleaner.  I love a clean window!

Recycle and use what you have.  Leave a comment and share what you use as rags.  I Dare You To Be Domestic.
