On Dare To Be Domestic I only feature cool ass crafts. I’ll never show you how to knit cat footies or make origami napkin ring holders, because frankly that’s a little boring. Don’t get me wrong, if that’s your thing, I get it.
Today’s “Cool Ass Craft” comes from an artist out of Venice, CA via Woodhull, NY. His name is Seith Balliett, and I met him during a contract work assignment at an ad agency in Los Angeles. I’ve been his biggest fan ever since. When you see what Seth does, you’ll be so inspired to create your own art for your space.
Seth takes what most of us throw away everyday and creates masterpieces. His studio is called Paper To Canvas, and if you think his paper created portraits just look cool, look a little closer. Every intricate portrait Seth creates uses a combination of magazine, newspaper, and/or handwritten letter clippings. And, each scrap piece of paper is actually relevant to the subject he is bringing to life on canvas.
His latest work was inspired by presidential candidate Barack Obama. In this amazing piece, Seth utilized magazine clippings on Senator Obama from Time Magazine. AMAZING! Partial proceeds from the sale of this print will go towards the Obama-Biden Campaign.
Seth is truly a master craftsman. Get inspired and try it at home. You’ll need some glue, old magazines, a blank canvas and your imagination.
Seth’s super cool work is for sale on his website. To purchase a print of the Obama piece featured today visit this link: WORDS OF HOPE. Pass this on to your friends to help support an important cause. You can also commission Seth to do a piece for you. I can’t think of a more original, more personalized gift full of sentiment and meaning like this.
Go ahead, try it at home. Until next time I Dare You To Be Domestic!
