I've been obsessed with ironing
lately. I've been ironing all my t-shirts, boxers and even sheets
(as mentioned in an earlier posting). If there is one thing about
being domestic you should remember it’s this: "The small things
often make a big difference." Your ironing board pad or cover
is a perfect example.
Go ahead. Walk over to that storage
closet and take a look at your ironing board. Focus on the cover. Does it look tired? Is it
full of stains? Does it have burn marks and starch build up? Nasty! Yeah, I pretty much guessed it
would.
But with just one small change, you
can make a world of difference with the chore so many of us hate… Replace
that ironing board cover when it starts to wear! It's not always about the aesthetics, replacing worn pads
also makes your ironing experience easier and more effective.
By replacing your pad you will be
able to:
- Move your iron across your garments easier.
- Allow steam to penetrate your garments.
- Avoid getting pattern marks on your garments from
the metal ironing board itself. - Allow yourself to get into the arms and shoulders of
your garment without causing tears and stretching.
Here are a few other factors to keep
in mind:
- Metallic ironing board covers can be a better choice
because they do not absorb heat and allow for the garment to absorb the
majority of the heat. - Avoid synthetic covers. They are not great at
withstanding heat and will wear faster—hence why you might be buying
a new one. - Make sure your cover fits snugly. A loose cover
can be highly annoying. - The thicker the better. Lots of foam equals happy
ironing. - Expect to spend about twenty-five bucks for a quality
cover. If you find one for ten dollars or less you might want
to keep on walking. - Last but not least, find a cover that expresses your
personality. It might be just an ironing board cover, but if you're
gonna do a chore you don't like, at least look good while doing
it. HELLO!

I’m an ironing geek. It probably won’t last forever, but I’m engaged and have a son and like ironing my fiances work shirts and the few dress shirts my 14-month old has.
Thanks for the advice! I hate ironing, but maybe a cute cover will help motivate me!
I lately came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first remark. I don’t know what to say except that I have loved reading. Respectable blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
