Do you have like 40 remote controls on your coffee table? What an eyesore, headache and mess. UGH! If so, you have the same problem I used to have. I’m gonna help you fix it once and for all. Chances are one of those remotes on your coffee table is a universal one. Grab it and lets go! We are going to learn how to program a universal remote!
There are a few different ways to program your remote and it depends on the type you have. An easy fix is to visit the Website of your remote manufacturer for instructions and then check out the codes Website I have provided at the end of this blog – how sweet of me. But first, here’s an example to get your brain going:
First, identify the manufacturers of the remote and the device you want to control. In this example, it’s a GE remote and a Phillips brand TV.
1. Press the button on the remote corresponding to the component you want to program (i.e. TV, DVD, AUDIO, etc.).
2. Hold the SETUP button until the button remains illuminated.
3. Using your codes guide for GE (http://www.jascoproducts.com/support/universal-remote-codes.asp) find the code that corresponds with the make and model of the device you need the remote to work with. For this example, enter 0062 for the Phillips TV.
4. Test by making sure the power goes off and on.
Now it’s your turn. The good thing is that some remotes do this process automatically. Oh yeah, cable TV remotes are perfect to use as universal remotes and here is a TIP most have programming directions on the backside. (If not, visit your cable provider’s Website.)

Now armed with your one master remote, hide all others in a drawer. Whew! Until next time. I Dare You To Be Domestic.
