I Should Charge To Use My Bathroom: Bringing The Spa Home

Home
There are three types of bathrooms in the world:  The one where you lavish in its beauty, the one where you consider squatting because you really have to go, and the one where you would rather ruin your favorite pair of jeans before even taking a breath to peak at what’s inside.  What kind of bathroom do you have?
A while back I wanted to transform my bathroom into a more spa-like environment.  Now it’s one of my favorite rooms.
Often we forget that our bathrooms are rooms too and can evoke pleasure.  They too deserve a little jazzing up, and I’m not talking about investing thousands of dollars.  I am talking about punching up the simple things like functionality, accessories and ambiance.
Here are some helpful ways to spa up your bathroom:
Towels
Display
Have everything you need in eyeline view.  Take your towels and put them on display.  Invest in some type of storage solution that allows you to have all your beautiful linens on display.  A basket, a little shelf, or even a magazine holder is an option.  The key is to make your towels seem more inviting and to actually use the towels you have on display – pamper yourself and enjoy the things you own.  Having display towels is not every spa-like.
Lights
Lighting
Dingy lighting can be a downer in a bathroom.  Try a new light bulb that casts more white light as opposed to yellow.  You’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a whole new space. Candles can also add to the spa feeling, but only if you use them.  There is nothing I dislike more than an unlit candle.  Don’t be afraid to light a few tea lights on a Tuesday night.  In fact, make every night your spa night.
Bottles
Presentation
Store your everyday products in secondary containers.  Example:  I buy large, Costo-size mouthwash, but I don’t want an ugly generic bottle sitting out on my counter.  So I purchased some colorful blue glass bottles designed to store products and transferred my mouthwash to that container.  (Be sure to label.)  You can do the same with lotions and perfumes.  Small shelves are another easy way to put all your amazing bath products on display.  Get them off the counter and on the wall.

Color
Use earth tones.  Your bathroom is an extension of the earth and all its elements.  If you want to truly relax, change up the colors of your accessories to more earth-friendly tones:  browns, greys, light blue, and sea green are good options.
Scent
Change your bathroom cleaner often to keep you interested.  I don’t know about you, but when I use the same cleaning product for a long time the smell starts to take a turn for the worst.  Change up your scents and keep it fresh.
Other tips for that spa feeling:
  • No cleaning products on display
  • Clean and empty counter tops
  • Have ample supplies in easy to find places
  • Display magazines and books for your entertainment
  • Keep a robe and slippers on hand
  • If budget permits switch to white linens
  • If space permits, cover a chair in a large terry cloth towel
  • Use some type of music player.
  • Make a bathroom playlist with classical or jazz music
So love your bathroom and it will love you back.  Here are some pics of bathrooms I can’t get enough of.  I Dare You To Be Domestic!
