Hack my IKEA!

Just last week I was on the search for a lighting fixture for my dining area. I wanted something cool and different, but within a reasonable price range. After three trips to IKEA (Yes, three trips! There is one close to my home.), I thought I’d try to reproduce a series of lanterns I had seen in the windows of Design Within Reach. I’m proud to say I now I have a light fixture in my dining area that I love!

In the spirit if D.I.Y. IKEA projects, I stumbled on a great site dedicated to just that. Check out the website, IKEA Hackers, which is a community of DIYers who have modified or enhanced their IKEA furniture in creative new ways. IKEA’s pricing structure has definitely saved many a wallet, and their put-it-together-yourself approach can be fun, or aggravating, but now even original!
