Get this. The City of Santa Monica, CA is doing their part to reduce their carbon footprint. Although it sounds crazy and a lil’ repulsive (to me anyways) the City is allowing residents to salvage the metal doorknobs for the soon to be remodeled jail. Jail doorknobs? WTF? I actually have no words. So my question of the day is would you use a salavaged doorknob, like the ones pictured above, from a jail/prison for your home? We want to know.

But all is not lost from this odd City Hall initiative. With a little research I learned that many cities offer free items form building makeovers and items owned the city no longer needs. Who knew?
Here are some items that can be cool when salvaged:
- old barn wood and floors – make new floors
- doors – make cool art and table tops
- barrels – another cocktail table solution
- hardware – add a little paint or polish
- chandeliers/fixtures – a great way to add some character
- window frames – make cool wall art
Until next time. I dare you to be domestic!
