Picture this: I had one of my good friends Eliot over for an evening of dinner and watching TV when he says to me, “Ewww, your fan is really dirty!” I look up. The expression on my face, and the embarrassment I felt must have been obvious because before I could even respond, he was already on a chair cleaning it for me. Wait! I’m the one who normally gives cleaning advice. ☹
Well, sometimes we forget those areas that are not so easily seen. Throughout this blog, I’m going to remind you of areas that you might totally forget about. Actually, Eliot called me out on my fan after a friend of his did the same to him! So, if you do one good deed today, it should be to pass this entry to all your friends with ceiling fans.
Look up and what do you see? If this is your first time seeing the village of dust mites above your head, you may have heard them prior. Yep, a dirty ceiling fan causes the fan to be unbalanced which in turn can create noise. ANNOYING!
So all you need to do is grab some all-propose cleaner, paper towels and a stepladder.
Make sure you fan is off and spray a piece of paper towel with your cleaner. Now wipe the narrow side of each blade where the dust collects. Be gentle, you don’t want to break your fan.
Now that it’s all clean, avoid this process in the future by using a duster ever so often. A good rule of thumb is to clean your ceiling fan every time you clean your floors, which should be pretty often. Ahhh, doesn’t it feel good to know your fans are clean? Peace.
