My dining area was a part of my home that needed a little lovin’ until I found the perfect table at my local secondhand store. I knew right away it was meant for me! The table was substantial, had great modern lines and was proportional to the space. Being that I work from home, I always had a vision that I would have a conference table as my dining table and office chairs as my dinning seating – what do you know? Making over a vintage chair is a lot easier than you might think. In a recent shopping trip to midcenturyLA, I found three chairs perfect for my latest design project – minus the Three’s Company-esq floral print. At first glance I knew the proportions and the airiness of the chairs would work with the modern Italian sofa we had already purchased.

For the upholstery, I choose a period fabric, a gray boucle, that would maintain the integrity of the chair. And for the two smaller chairs a cream leather. I also chose to leave the vintage wood bases untouched. Often for a vintage piece it’s the imperfections that make them cool. Here are my before and afters.
Just last week I was on the search for a lighting fixture for my dining area. I wanted something cool and different, but within a reasonable price range. After three trips to IKEA (Yes, three trips! There is one close … Continue reading →
